Patrick Gleeson

Patrick Gleeson is a British writer and composer. He is best known for the first book in the Theatreland Mysteries trilogy, Hattie Brings the House Down (2024). The sequel, Hattie Steals the Show, is scheduled for release in 2025.

Patrick Gleeson trained as a theatre technician and worked in fringe theatre across London. In addition to taking on technical roles, he composed and designed sound for various productions. He later expanded his creative work to encompass music, fiction, and digital media.

In 2009, he launched The Clockwork Quartet, a steampunk cabaret project which has amassed a dedicated online following. Gleeson composed most of the music and lyrics. In 2011, he created Constance & Sinestra and The Cabinet of Screams, a musical written in collaboration with Alexandra Spencer-Jones. It was staged in Edinburgh and London, and later in the United States.

In 2012, Gleeson wrote and produced The Electric Animal Circus, a pilot for an animatronic show set in a dystopian future. In 2016, he started work on The Brainworthy House Mysteries, an unfinished sci-fi radio musical.

In 2017, his business book Working with Coders was published by Apress. Based on his experience in software development, it aimed to help professionals in non-technical roles. In 2021, Gleeson created the webcomic Why Aren’t You Coding?, which ran for 42 episodes.

In 2024, Gleeson debuted as a novelist with Hattie Brings the House Down, a cosy crime novel set in the world of theatre. The follow-up, Hattie Steals the Show, was released in 2025. Gleeson also developed the indie card-battler game Vanghast, though he does not consider himself a game designer.

Patrick Gleeson lives in Norfolk with his wife and children.
